Based in Moab, Utah, Sandi Snead is a painter and illustrator whose surreal, psychologically charged works are deeply influenced by the red rock landscapes of the American Southwest. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, she moved west in the late 1990s, drawn to the desert’s expressive terrain. A graduate of the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, Snead worked professionally as an illustrator before turning her focus to fine art. She works primarily in oil, but is also proficient in pastels and pencil. Her narrative paintings often feature dreamlike compositions, with figures posed in gestures influenced by her background in contemporary dance. Whether depicting the inner life of her subjects or the quiet majesty of the landscape, Snead brings an intuitive, lyrical approach to all of her work.
