Suzanne Sbarge, the visionary founder and longtime executive director of Albuquerque’s 516 ARTS, has been selected as Ogden Contemporary Arts’ fourth annual Artist-in-Residence. A practicing visual artist as well as a curator and arts advocate, Sbarge will begin her two-month residency in Ogden on September 1, 2025, culminating in a solo exhibition at OCA in winter 2025/26.
Sbarge’s residency marks a significant evolution in her practice, as she explores digital experimentation and video projection for the first time. Her new body of work will include large-scale paintings, collage animation, and immersive installation, drawing inspiration from Ogden’s natural environment to examine themes of consciousness, ecology, and human interconnectedness with the natural world.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Suzanne Sbarge as our Artist in Residence,” said Venessa Castagnoli, Executive Director of OCA. “After decades of championing artists and building community, it’s her turn. We’re honored to provide space for her to fully invest in her own artistic exploration.”
Sbarge has exhibited widely in over 80 group exhibitions and 16 solo shows, and her work is held in more than 150 private and public collections. She holds degrees from Barnard College and the University of New Mexico and has studied art in France, Italy, and across the U.S.
