Jim Jacobs is a sculptural artist based in Ogden, Utah, whose work explores the profound connection between humans and the environment. Initially trained in painting, Jacobs earned his BFA from Jacksonville University and MFA from East Carolina University. After moving to Utah in 1985, he taught visual arts at Weber State University until 2015. Jacobs’ work incorporates materials like woven tree branches, milled lumber, wooden tools, furniture, and human hair, evolving from his early sculptural paintings. He views wood as a powerful metaphor for humanity’s physicality, social and political nuances, and role in nature, reflecting its deep entwinement in our lives.
