Based in rural San Juan County, Utah, Nancye Culbreath is a landscape painter working primarily in oil. A self-directed artist with a lifelong passion for the American West, she pursued professional training in horsemanship before devoting herself fully to art. Her painting career began in earnest in Colorado, where she studied with artists Joan Hanley, Tim Diebler, and Deb Komitor, and developed a distinctive style inspired by the bold forms and colors of the southwestern landscape. Influenced by painters like Maynard Dixon and Ernest Blumenschein, Culbreath seeks not to replicate the land, but to express its vibrancy and spirit through simplified shapes and rich, expressive color. She has exhibited widely across Colorado and Utah, receiving multiple Best of Show awards, and is represented by galleries including James Ratliff Fine Art (Sedona, AZ) and Datura Gallery (Ivins, UT). A signature member of Cowgirl Artists of America and board member of Kigalia Arts Council in Blanding, Culbreath continues to explore the canyons and vistas of southeastern Utah, painting full time from her studio near Monticello.
